Otres – Kambodschas Stranddorf
As a passionate traveler I am always looking for new and unique experiences. It is the perfect place for one.unusual experience. The town is located on the banks of the Otres River and there are several beautiful beaches nearby. In addition, the village is close to numerous restaurants and bars, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Cambodian way of life. I have spent weekends in this beautiful place away from the hustle and bustle of city life to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Cambodia.

Pachamama: an ecological retreat
My favorite stay at Otres Village was Pachamama, a charmingly designed guesthouse run by an equally charming British mother-daughter duo, Sylvia and Steph. His lively and charismatic personality was also reflected in the atmosphere of the place. The hippie-rustic décor complemented by plastic recycling and other sustainable practices creates a wonderful atmosphere. The riverfront accommodation was comfortable and affordable, around $25 a night. It is an ideal place to relax, socialize and have a good time.

There was an excellent restaurant serving some of the most delicious authentic vegan dishes. La Pachamama was well known in Otres for the variety and excellent quality of vegan food prepared with care. I could not wish for a more harmonious environment for my weekend where the accommodation, the food and the surroundings were perfect.
The atmosphere in the Pachamama restaurant was like a sanctuary with its wooden structures, vegetation and warm decoration.
The restaurant's seating terrace and open-air yoga studio overlook a secluded 50-meter-wide river with a beautiful mangrove forest on the other side. I was thrilled when they told me you could rent kayaks and explore the mangroves. We saw many guests give in to the adventurous and take an unforgettable boat ride through the mangroves, one of the most incredible experiences ever.

Otres Beaches: some of the best beaches in Cambodia
Otres Beach is divided into two distinct areas: Otres 1 and Otres 2. There are more things to do in Otres 1 than in Otres 2. It is one of the most beautiful and idyllic destinations on the coast. With its crystal clear blue waters and white sand, it is a true paradise. Unlike many other popular tourist beaches, Otres has been relatively untouched by luxury hotels or large tourist flows. Its calm and peaceful charm was the perfect place to enjoy rest and relaxation.

Another aspect that differentiates Otres from other beaches is its incredible seafood. Whether you fancy freshly grilled fish or succulent oysters straight from the sea, there's always something delicious to delight your palate. For the adventurous, there are numerous underwater activities. Around the place there are also many islands that can be explored on a boat trip. However, my favorite hobby was lounging on the bamboo swings on the beach and enjoying the beautiful sunset.

Otres Night Market - multicultural entertainment
Come on Saturday night and the sleepy town of Otres will come alive with the Otres Night Market. It's a carnival of international cuisine, craft cocktails and live music, all set against the backdrop of an open-air festival atmosphere. There are performances everywhere and the room is open to anyone who wants to come on stage and show their talent. One of the performances that most caught my attention were the fire dancers. Cheap beer abounds and new friends are made quickly, making the night market the perfect place to blow off steam and have some fun. It is an incredible atmosphere where different cultures merge in a multicultural show. People from other towns travel to participate in this weekly experience.
use: There is news that the Otres night market no longer exists after Covid. Be sure to do your research before planning your visit.

Ream National Park: in Cambodia's protected wildlife
To benature lover, a visit to Sihanoukville has an added attraction for me, the Ream National Park. It is located about 20 kilometers from the town of Otres. The Prek Teuk Sap River runs through the park. A must-see for any nature lover, the park is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including mangrove forests, tropical dry forests, and coral reefs. Park visitors can take a boat ride on the river, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mangrove forest, home to crocodiles, turtles, and fish.

We took a boat tour of about 1.5 hours and explored the mangroves in the area. Platforms were built at certain points to access the mangroves and we also went up to the watchtower. This is one of the most photogenic places. During our visit we were the only tourists, so it was a relaxed and calm trip. On our boat trip we experience one of the most spectacular estuaries with amazing biodiversity.
A relaxing and adventurous boat trip in the Ream National Park that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Visitors can also spend time hiking through the forest or snorkeling in the crystal clear waters. The park is also a popular spot for bird watching, and rare birds such as the milk stork and white-bellied sea eagle can often be spotted.

Kbal Chhay Falls: A View of the Prek Tuk Sap River
Just outside the city are the Kbal Chhay Falls, formed by the Prek Teuk Sap River flowing over a series of limestone cliffs. It is easily accessible by road, but the 10km road to the falls is muddy, unpaved and rutted. So drive carefully. We visited the waterfall between the rainy and dry seasons when the waterfall fell beautifully and it was an awesome sight.
The gushing Kbal Chhay Falls was a perfect photo opportunity
While the rainy season is said to be the best time to see the falls in all their glory, the falls are still impressive and worth a visit in the dry season. It is a series of stepped waterfalls that make a perfect place for a picnic. We visit the place in the morning and we optimize our trip both from the experience and from the photography. There are several viewing platforms from where you can admire the beauty of the falls. For the more adventurous there is the opportunity to swim in the pool where the waterfall ends. There are no restaurants here, however you can eat local and local food.delicious cambodian foodin open ground.
The sight of the Kbal Chhay waterfalls tumbling over the limestone into the green was amazing.
wonderful coincidence
To boost tourism, Cambodia is introducing a very simple and straightforward visa process. This has attracted a multitude of travelers, many of whom have stayed in Sihanoukville for extended periods and have even started small businesses. Over the years, Sihanoukville has undergone numerous changes and has been greatly modernized in terms of infrastructure and other factors. Unfortunately, the well-known Pachamama is currently closed, but there are many similar establishments open to travelers. The changing landscape of this tranquil oasis takes a toll on its charm, but Sihanoukville will always be in my heart, a place of comfort and respite.
